There was alargeyavdingof about 3000 sheep at the fair held at Wellsfonl oil Wednesday last by Alfred Buckland & Sons, Limited. There was a large attendance of buyers from all parts of the Lower North and competition .was good for good quality ewes, wethers, rams and stoic lambs. Prices were en a par with values at recent sales in the North, but several large lines of four and five-year ewes were passed in. The advertised Southdown rams from Messrs G. and R. Coates, of Matakohe, and Mr Coulter, of Te Arai; and Romney rams from Mr R. D. Greenwood, of Pakiri, met a good demand, realising from 4igns. to Bgns. A large number of small lines were taken by dairy farmers as there is an abundance of feed in the Lower North. Values: — Forward twotooth wethers, 20/3 to 21/; ■ forward four-tooth wethers, 21/3 to 21/6; fat four-tooth wethers, 23/3 ; forward four and six-tooth wethers, 22/; good two-toofch wethers, 19/9 ; fat two-tooth wethers, 22/; poor mixed aged wethers, 12/; 50 twotooth Romney ewes from L. Dudding, 29./6 ; mixed four and six-tooth ewes from Mrs Macky, 21/6 ; 109 mixed four and six-tooth ewes from Mrs Macky, 18/6; good full-mouth ewes, 14/ to 17/ ; poor, 12/ to 13/6 ; 97 mixed two, four and six-tooth ewes, from G. B. White, 16/6; aged ewes, 9/ to 11/ ; cull ewes, 6/ to 8/; fat ewes, 13/6 to 17/ ; best woolly ewe lambs, to 18/; poorer, to 15/9; best woolly wether lambs, 14/3 to 14/6; mixed woolly lambs, 13/6 ; good shorn wether lambs, 14/3; poorer, 13/; shorn mixed lambs, best, 11/ to 11/9; poorer, 9/3 ; cull lambs, 8/ ; fat lambs, 20/9 ; killable 16/9.
Variety and attractiveness characterise this week's issue of the "Sporting and Dramatic Review," the illustrations covering every range of interest for all tastes.
