AT THE FIRST ATTEMPT.
"That's the one I like," persisted little Mrs. Newly, as she eyed approvingly a striking khaki blouse f
"Very becoming, madam," agreed the assistant. "Won't you try it on again?"
. Vainly Mrs. N. endeavoured to convince herself that the blouse was not* too big for her. She braced her shoulders back to fill the roomy garment, but unsuccessfully.
"Just a minute, madam," suggested the assistant, as she hurried along to the shopwalker with the blouse under her arm. .
"What shall I tell her?" she inquired, nodding in the direction of the customer—"that it shrinks or that it doesn't shrink?"
"Is it too large or too small?" "Two sizes too big."
"Oh, well, guarantee it to shrink at the first washing!"
