THEIR CHOICE.
It was an "At-home," and a certain bachelor, noted for his charming manners and polished wit, was the hero of the evening. ~~
Several ladies gathered together were having a friendly talk, when one of them remarked:
"I wonder how it is that Mr. Singull has never married?"
One of the ladies made up her mind to ask the gentleman for his version of the story, and, as soon as an opportunity offered, she went up to him and engaged him in talk. t
"Now, do tell me, Mr. Singull, are you unmarried from choice?" she asked.
"Oh, yes I" said he, too readily, she thought.
"That sounds somewhat unchivalrous, doesn't it?" *
"Perhaps so, madam, perhaps so! But it was the choice of the lady, not mine."
