MAURICE E. HENLEY.
On Tuesday .the 23rd of September Mr Henley of Kaukapakapa, passed away. It is 52 years since Mr Henley arrived in Kaukapakapa, and throughout that period, the deceased gentleman was always ready to use his abilities and; knowledge for the common g00d... In. I)ecem ber, 1876 Kaukapakapa, then a riding of-Rodney County, elected Messrs Henley wad G. W. Murray as its first Councillors. On the second meeting of the Council Mr Henley moved that the Counties Act in its entirety should be brought into force in Rodney which was seconded by Mr Murray and carried by one vote. Kaukapakapa was transferred to Waitemata County by the following election. Mr Henley was in poorly health for some time, but the end came rather suddenly at last.
Mrs Henley, who is a daughter of Mr and Mrs T. Chaplin, two sons and a daughter survive the deceased. The interment took place on Thursday last amidst a large gathering to come to pay the last token of respect to one whose character was esteemed by all.
