MRSN. COOPER.
The ranks of the New Zealand pioneers is being greatly depleted of late, and - the cteath of Mrs Naomi Cooper of Waihou, mother of Mr XL 0. Cooper, which occurred at the Residence of her son-in-law, Mr John Neve, Waihou, has-further reduced the number of the gallant "band <tf early settlers, who-in a spirit of indomitabieness left the shores of England to make their homes in New Zealand, which in many portions was practically in its virgin, state. The late Mrs Cooper came to this country in the ship Matilda Wattenbach, in June 1862, and was 90 years of age. Her husband .died 27 years ago, and was buried in the Shortland Cemetery, Thames, where the body of Mrs Cooper will also be' taken for interment . '
Deceased, who was one of a family of 24, had. been gradually failing for the past four weeks, and was attended by Dr. Kenny. She passed away peacefully about 8 o'clock on Saturday eyening. She leaves four daughters and two sons :—Mrs Neve, Waihou; Mrs Ted Moore, Waihou; Mrs Dynes, Matatoki; Mrs T. Wood, Wellington; Mr H. 0. Cooper (Mrs H. O. Cooper was Miss Driver, the ■ eldest sister of Messrs H. and J. Driver), the eldest son, and Mr T. A. Cooper, who is a member of the Thames County Council, and a director of the Thames Valley Dairy Company. There are forty-one grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Mr and' Mrs Cooper senr., were members of the party that took up their residence in the settlement of Albertland, North Auckland, the jubilee of which place was celebrated last year.—Te Aroha News.
