WHERE IT IS HOTTEST AND COLDEST.
Bahrein, one of the Aval Islands, in the Persian Gulf, is believed to be the hottest place in the world ,though some swear by Aden. The mean temperature of Bahrein for the entire year is 99 degrees. July, August and September are unendurable to all persons not acclimatised. s Night after night, a s midnight comes, the thermometer marks 100 degrees. By seven in the morning: it is 107 or 108 degrees, and by three in the afternoon 140 degrees. Excluding- the, as yet unascertained, limit .of low temperatures at the Pole,s, the coldest known place is Werchbjansk, in Siberia; north latitude, 67 degrees 34 minutes; and east longi* tude, 133 degrees 51 minutes. The mean temperature there in the month of January is 90 degrees below zero Fahrenheit, or 122 degrees of frost.
The disciplined soul is not only garrisoned against its own cries, bat has provision and strength to. spare for those of its fellow.
