PREVENTING LIFT ACCIDENTS.
Ah automatic safety installation, designed to prevent the numerous accidents liable to occur in using pas-1 senger lifts, is being placed on the market in America. By means of a hinge yielding section in the floor of the. lift at the entrance and electric-' ally connected with mechanism in the basement, the movement of the lift is prevented when a person is enter-1 ing or leaving, or when one is stand-! ing so near the door as to be in' danger of injury from the movement of the lift. Another feature of the installation is a device in the roof of. the car over the door- This consists' of a yielding section, contact with which, by the head or body of a person about to be caught and crushed, instantly stops the car.
