JOINT WAR MEMORIAL, Per Press Association. Whakatane, June 10 A leading Maori chief, Hurunni Opanui, called a meetiug of representatives of local bodies at tho Maori Fa yesterday to propose a joint Maori aud Pakeha War Memorial, ami there was a large attendance, Hurunurs proposal was unanimously adopted and a representative committee set up to decide the form of the Memorial, which will be erected regardless of cost. The natives desired the memorial to be erected at the sacred Pohatxiroa rock,near the landing place of the original Maori canoe in Whakatane town and this was unanimously approved.
