HIDES SALE.

RECORD PRICES AT AUCKLAND Auckland, March 23 Record prices for Auckland were realised at rhe hide sales, a small parcel of stout ox hides realising 2s 3d per lb. The price fixed by the Government tor. similar hides prior to the adoption of the new regulations as to sale was l||l%d. Prices for good cow hides ranged from Is 8d to 2s o>£d per lb. Country butchers’ ox hides realised as much as 2s per lb, and cow hides Is 10d. Calf skins sold as high as 4s per lb. Very heavy catalogues were submitted, including a large percentage of freezing works’ hides, experts expressing the opinion that the selection was the largest and best that Had been offered in Auckland for some years. Under the new regulations tanners have a pre-emptive right to take whatever hides they require at the price determined ut the sales. This right was freely exercised, tanners claiming nearly all lots offered after exporters had bid up to their limit.
