THE COAL SHORTAGE.
AUCKLAND TRAM SERVICES REDUCED. Per Press Association. Auckland, Jan 29 Owing to the coal shortage the City Council has decided to curtail tram services for Saturday. The small reserves are rapidly diminishing, and it was found that the cut was necessary immediately in order to prevent complete stoppage. It was later decided to reduce the services to-morrow, and cut out services on the hills, thus creating a gap in every service. The cars will not come into Queen Street, the eastward section stopping at the top of Symonds Street, a mile and a half from the Post Office and the western at the top of Pitt Street. About onethird of the staff of the tramways will he temporarily suspended, onethird of the men standing down each week.
