While the Allied Mission trains wore lying at Irkutsk station negotiating a passage through to the coast, throe of Semenoff’s armoured trains arrived and a regular battle followed. The revolutionaries sent empty engines roaring down the line. Two of Semenoff’s trains were wrecked and some of the Allied Missionora were wounded by flying bullets and shrapnel. A battalion of Japanese rescued the missions. Washington, Jan 22
Martens, Soviet ambassador, at the Senate sub-committee of investigation, denied that the Lenin regime planned a world revolution. Lenin recently advised the Italian radicals against precipitate action. The Soviets were now strong enough to face the world. Agitation propaganda was no longer necessary abroad.
