SWIMMING.

MINISTER FAVOURS INCREASED GRANT. Per Press Association. Christchurch, June 19. A deputation representing the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Asociation waited on the Hon. G. W. Russell to-day asking* for an augmented grant from the Government for tire purpose of encouraging swimming amongst school children. Mr Russell said that as a war measure the grant to the association had been cut down from £2OO to £IOO. The war was over and though they might have a bit of a struggle financially for a year or two he was of opinion that the amount should be increased . to the original vote. The' Department of Public Health would send to Cabinet a recommendation to that effect. Mr Russell added that an endeavour should be made to get local bodies throughout the Dominion to coni tribute to the association’s funds.
