SHORT-WEIGHT BREAD.

Per Press Association, Wellington, June 20. At the Police Court, Joseph WiL liams Armstrong, baker, was fined £lO for selling underweight bread. Defendant’s counsel stated that new flour had been used, and the sixounce margin allowed for evaporation had proved too little. remarked : Every' baker lias a set of scales, and if he does not like to take precauti ons of testing his bread now and again lie must take the consequences. This man might have been selling shortweight bread for -weeks. We bad some trouble about adulterated milk some time ago, and I want to make it clear that I intend to take the same stand in regar to this matter. There is only one way to put a stop to this sort of thing, and that is to hit hard evey time.
