THAT ANNOYING WORD “EFFICIENCY.”
They are funny people those Americans and Canadians. They have got the notion that alcohol is bad for Efficiency. In hundreds and hundreds of plants on ihe great Continent yon can’t get on the a pay roll unless yon certify that you ce7er __NEVER. mind you—enter a saloon. They know that “Beer is a British Beverage, and tba* but for Whisky, Scotland and Ireland would not be what they are;” and even then they say: ‘‘No good to ns, sonny; if yon’re not on --the water waggon you can’t ccme across.” The Yank and the Kanuk are not “ wow'ers. ” No, it’s not that. They think Billy Sunday tar got the hang of it from his point of view; bnt it iisn’fc sentiment they bank or, Their notion is that the booze" or the near boozer —the moderate—can’t deliver the goons, and so they give him the push—See! The Yanks and tre Kannks bank on Efficiency and ‘‘that’s ail there ia to it.” 'ibey have gone dry. Tnere isn’t a drop of “dope” about the place. What do you know about that?
