DEMANDS ON THE POPULATION.
London, M-iy (5.
The Daily Telegraph's Rotterdam correspondent says the German general staff is making still greater demands upon Germany's Allies. A large number of Austrian infantry have been brought from Germany from garrison and other duties, replacing Germans. A weeding out of the civil population is going on, including many business men, owing to the losses of tha last six weeks' offensive.
THE AUSTRALIAN PART.
London, May 6,
Australians had fin inspiring part in the recent defensive operations. They never had such an opportunity for killing Germans. Ihe whole force has been trained to welcome snch massed attacks, wherein the enemv's losses are stupendous. So far from admitting that victory is impossible the Australians realise that the futile Gorman thrusts have already brought the end nearer, heralding the complete overthrow of the German armies. Although certain sentiments are attached to ttie lost ground the Australians have no regrets, knowing that it does not matter where the final battle is fought provided the opponents of democratic liberty are robbed of their greedy powers for all time. This being the Autralians' first hope they are determined, to unswervingly meet every successive attack until the Germans admit they are defeated. WAR WORK OF AMERICAN WOMEN. London,"May G.
