MANGAWEKA NOTES.

As will be seen by an advertisement ut the foot of the jiJangaweka stock sale, notice on page one, the Kawhatau ladies intend giving some excellent changes at thtir Patriotic shop and tea rooms, to b» conducted at Mangaw&ka next Thursday. In addition to the usual lines, prizes will be given in various classes of cooking and sewing, and there will be a poultry stall. Mystery and profit will blend in the "Surprise Bags," which will be offered freely, and ho doubt bought still more freely. "Suprise Bags," have proved a most popular and help* ful item in lsrger centres, and their introduction here marks an enterprising spirit. It is stated that the bags contain useful prizes and everyone is asked to invest. An appeal is made to the general public to give freely iu the interest of the Navy League and the Red Gross, for which funds the shop is being run. . . . One and all are asked
to give something the 7 c«n spare, and after that something they fcaa not spare, snd thus foster the spirit of self denia l which characterises the work of our sailors and soldiers. It is thus that the nation will benefit, and ultimately ours-Ives Many entries are wanted in the "Golliwogs," camisole, home-made loaves, and sponge cake competitions, and handsome prizes have bef.n donated, for the classes. The stalls will include produc?, sewing and fancy goods, bran tubs hoine-nude cakes
stall, etc. At the latter delicious cakes, pastry, meat and apple pies, meraugues, poultry, etc , will b» on sale, while stock dealers will be interested to know that "Admiral Beattio" will b" put up for auctioa at the sale yards, oil behalf of the Navy League Fund. A correspondent has asked for the exact figures of the takings at last year's Bulb show. The apportion rnent was as follows: The Patriotic Society £371 18s Bd, Red Gross £122 6s Brl, Plunket Society £35. * A meeting of the Eciliitncy Board is being held this evening, the Town Board meeting taking place next Thusday, Members of the Maug'iweka Branch of the Farmers' Union are asked to note that the annu-sl meeting takes place next Thursday afternoon, H'jy 9th. An advertisement to that affect appears in another column.
