THE GORGE BRIDGES.

The apportionment of the cost of maintenance of the Upper and Lower Gorge Bridges was adversely commented upon by Councillors at the Rangitikei County Council meeting on Saturday. The whole of the Rangitikei County is rated to pay three per cent of the cost, whilst the Pohangina, Kiwitea, and Manawatu County. Councils, which are in closer proximity to the Gorge, are not rated. _ The Chairman moved and Cr. F. Brice seconded—That this Council is of opinion that the award of the Commissioners in so far as it includes Rangitikei County in the list of the contributing local authorities to the maintenance of the Gorge road and the Upper Gorge road is most inequitable.—Carried.
