AUSTRALIAN SOLDIERY.
NEW RECRUITING SCHEME. (Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.) Melbourne, Feb. 25. Mr Hughes outlined the new recruiting scheme, which provides for the appointment of a Royal Commission to decide how many recruits are wanted montlhy. The scheme proposes to increase the separation allowance of married men by h, per cent., and to pay 4% pere cut. on the soldiers’ deferred pay. Eligibles are to be asked to submit their names to the district ballot and to enlist, if drawn, to make up a quota"for any eligible mouth. Recruits are to be insured and bonuses will be paid to recruiting sergeants. Returned soldiers to replace eligibles, whose circumstances do not debar,them, but wiio will not enlist. Received Fob. 2(i, 11 a. m. Sydney, Feb, 2G. The recruiting ’policy provides tliat enlisted men, after a short period in camp, will bo given leave on pay to canvass for recruits in their homo localities. A bonus of ton shillings will bo paid recruiting sergeants tor 'each recruit actually enlisted, A special magistrate will bo appointed to inquire into cases of persons of enemy birth in Commonwealth employ.
