SUBURBAN TRAINS.
THE IMPROVED SERVICES.
(Par Press Association.) Wellington, Jan. Jl
Prom what can be gathered inofficial quarters, the improvements in the suburban triin services promised by the Government,’will bo of modest dimensions. The main aim will he to Avith the serious inconvenience caused by cutting out the suburbs of tne big cities from communication with towns after about 8 p.m. In most cases about two trains will run in each direction after this hour, but there is no idea of resuming the full service of pre-war times. The staff question is hardly as serious to-day, with the restricted services, as that of the coal supply. It is au open secret that the Railway Department is running on small supplies of steam coal, and lias not been successful in improving the position. Unless more coal ns obtainable, the'Department may have to again review the whole of the train services with the object of further economising in coal.
