TURAKINA NOTES.
From. our- Own Correspondent. We are- pleased to loam tint ono of our young men in Fiance, Horatio Ortu&y Clark, has boon promoted to be- sergeant. Sergeant Clark is a sou or Mr H. Clark, an old resident of Tnmkina. Ho left about two years ago and has seen some severe fighting-, and so far has come, sifely through it all. His friends will all bo pleased to lien- of his promotion. For soon mouths b <ck a squad of men have been renewing.the telegraph posts lu the district. They have finished their work for the meantime and taken their departure. The school has been painted and some hoards renewed and windows repaired so it will bo ready for the re-opening of the school after the holidays. Shearing is now practically nuislied and those who have crops aro busy lurvestiug. Around the village there is little or no cropping as' the land in tiken v.p in dairy farms. The dairy farmers have had a good soisou and good prices.
