Tiie gross takings over this period was £IOB 13a (id, expenditure £9B 10s 2d, leaving a credit balance of £lO os 4d. During this term, 40 parcels, each containing twelve different articles, 40 puddings, 40 cutes, and coupons to the value of £5, were posted to the loc -1 boys at the front. The purchase of fruit, cakes, etc., tor retailing at the Patriotic Shop, lias been a considerable item owing to the off season, and our returns from this branch have been seriously reduced. Quite a number of letters have been received recently from the “boys,” gratefully acknowledging receipt of their individual parcels, and the committee extend their thanks to the numerous supporters, whereby they have been enabled to purchase and despatch these tokens of remembrance. On Christmas Eve, in common with previous years, an entertainment will be held in the Raugiwania Hall, for the purpose of raising funds for Dr. Barnardo’s Homes. Last year’s effort realised the sum of £3l. This donation was acknowledged in grateful terms by the director. During these three years of unprecedented stress this institution lias been severely taxed, but the doors are ever open, and the committee appeal on their behalf that this year’s donation may be appreciably greater than the previous one.
