TURAKINA NOTES.

From Our Own Correspondent. The annual break-up,of the Maori Girls’ School took pi ce on Tuesday afternoon. The weal her was fine and tli© function took place in the open-air on the lawn in front of the school. A good number assembled, including former pupils and Maori friends. The convenor of the Pres by tori an Maori Mission Committee, Kev. A. Doull xnesided. The proceedings commenced with the singing of a hymn and prayer. The chairman then referred in complimentary terms to the good work clone by Mr Hamilton and his staff. Addressing the girls, lie urged them to remember and crry out the lessons they had learned so that their lives would bo lives of gladness and power -nd helpfulness, and especially to remember the lessons they had learned at church and Bible Class and Prayer Circles. Mr Doull thon road the Inspector’s report which stated that the work was satisfactory, the manners and behaviour’of the girls very commendable. Pour bad gained proficiency and three competency in Standard YI. Special attention had been paid to cooker}', Landry work, and dressmaking. Mr Hamilton then read the prize list, and the prizes were presented by the Rev. J. McCaw, Lower Hutt, whose bright and humorous remarks kept all in good spirits. Among the special prizes were ones given by the W. C. T. U. of Palmerston. Tim examiner, Mr Campbell, of Palmerston, in his report complimented the teachers and girls on the creditable way in which the answers to the questions had been given and | the good essays written. They showed that good information had been given on Temperance. The singing of the National Anthem and the Benediction closed the meeting. Afternoon tea was then handed round by the girls, and a pleasant ■ time spent in social conversation. j
