THE MARKETS.

CANTERBURY PRODUCE.

Per Press Association.

Christchurch, Nov. 15.

The grain crops in Canterbury are reported to bo looking remarkably well on the whole. There are complaints of blight in some of the wheat in the Ashburton district, which is an unusual thing. Rust Is said to have attacked some, of the oat crops owing to heavy growth and to occasional humid weather. The oat crops in many cases well forward, and harvesting is likely to begin earlier than usual., On the other hand the wheat crops are not so forward as last year, and. therefore there is less danger of damage by late frost, which was experienced in November in two previous sossous.

Little business of any kind is being done in the grain and produce market. The demand for chaff from the North Island appears to be easing off, as sales are more difficult to effect. There is, however, no change in prices. Oatmeal has advanced £1 per ton, and is now quoted at £22 in 351 b bags. The potato market is now showing signs of ending for the season. There is not 'much inquiry, and the top price is now £3 os at country stations. There is a boat now on berth for Auckland, and another is expected to load next week, which will relieve the late difficulty regarding shipping space for the Northern market.
