6REAT DISTRESS IN SYDNEY. GOVERNMENT GIVES RELIEF. By Telegraph—Special to Manawatn Times. AUCKLAND, Last Night. A message from Sydney dated October sth says: Reports of great distress among families out of work are being diseminatod from the Trades Hall and an organised appeal for public assistance is being made. The public is said not to be viewing the matter very kindly. Food is being distributed in front of the Trades Hall and all day long a stream of poor and poverty-stricken W'oracn flows through the building. One day it is estimated 1200 persons, mostly women, obtained relief. The Acting-Premier announced in the House of Representatives that the Government had decided to vote £20,000 for relief throughout New .South Wales.
