NEW PLYMOUTH, Last Night.

The -first lot of pig iron manufactured from Taranaki ironsasnd was despatched to a Dunedin firm yesterday. To-day the first annual meeting of the Taranaki Iron Ore Smelting Company was held, when reports as to the development of the process showed that the initial difficulties were practically overcome. A small furnace was now turning out seven tons a day. Before the big furnace can bo used the plant vrlll have to bo increased. General satisfaction was expressed with _ the progress,made and with the probability of the establishing of an industry with unlimited possibilities.
