THE HIGH COMMISSONER'S INVESTIGATIONS.

THE GOOD SHIP NEW ZEALAND.

PROMISING AFTER-WAR CONDITIONS.

(Received Thursday, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 10

Sir Thomas Mackenzie visited the warship New Zealand. The captain recently appointed to the command declared that in all his thirty-two years' experience of the navy he can honestly say he was never aboard a ship imbued with so high a spirit of discipline and duty. Sir Thomas Mackenzie visited the principal English and Scottish industrial centres and collected valuable data in connection ivith after-war trade.

The prospects for dairy produce were bright. It was expected there would be a great scarcity for some time after the war and all produce of a reasonable quality, especially butter, would find a ready market in view of the depletion of herds. Sir Thomas Mackenzie considers it necessary for the Dominion to utilise every opportunity to secure the markets now. We will then bo better able to retain them when the competition of outside countries is reestablished.
