MR LLOYD GEORGE’S SPEECH.
THE PENALTY OF DEFEAT.
EUROPE GOOSE-STEPPED. OVER.
Mr Lloyd George, speaking at Bangor, added: That he was never doubtful of the length and seriousness of the war. Britain was raising the largest voluntary army ever enrolled in any country in any century. It would be larger it it produced an army proportionate to population like France or Germany. There would be millions from Britain and 1,300,000 from the colonies. Two millions in Britain had already tendered their lives for the country in the field. The nation ought not to grudge its share of inconvenience. We ought to requisition every man who handles metal. There was every reason for confidence, but none for complacency. He did not say that if the Allies lost the Kasier would be enthroned in England, but they would hear the noisy tramp of the goosestep in the cities of the Empire. Russia would be trampled upon, France broken, Britain disarmed and America could not protect us. She would have enough to do to defend her own interests.
