AUCKLAND DEFEATS TARANAKI. Per Press Association. New Plymouth, September 4 The game between Auckland and Taranaki was a fast and open one, one point being in Auckland’s favour at the finish. In the first spei s , O’Leary kicked a penalty goal tor Auckland, and McGregor scored a try, which O’Leary failed to convert. In the second spell George kicked a goal from a mark for Taranaki, and converted a try scored by Roberts. Hall then scored a try for Auckland. The Auckland backs were superior In quickness to the Taranaki men, but the Taranaki forwards more than held their own.

The League match between Waikato and New South Wales was won by the latter by 30 to 14.
