Doull had renorted to the Wanganui Presbytery on his visit to the Oriugi Gamp, considerable discussion took place concerning the frequent attempts made by Brigade officers imported from England to convey the impression among the rank and file that the Church of England was the State Church, and that its services alone must be attended. A number of instances were given iu support of this, the most recent being at Oriugi, where the men, it was stated, were told to go to the Anglican service. This, it was pointed out was distinctly a contravention of Brigade orders, and manifestly unfair to other Churches of New Zealand. The Dominion recognising no special Church, all Churches were regarded as being equal iu status, and it was maintained that action should be taken to impress this fact upon officers, who practically commanded the men to attend the Anglican service. Eventually it was decided that the report he received and the question of Bund ay services be referred to the Chaplains Committee of the Assembly for report.
