MARTON CHRYSANTHEMUM SHOW.

SUCCESSFUL EXHIBITION. * """"""""" l The.seventeenth annual Show in j connection with the Presbyterian Church was opened this (Friday) afternoon, unfortunately in wet weather. The Town Hall presents a very gay appearance, and is exceedingly «vell filled with exhibits in all classes. The blooms are all of liigh standard, but according to the judges could be improved" upon and could do with much more careful handling—this latter fault, no doubt, has been due to the recent rough weather. £Taken on the whole the owflers compare very favourably with last year's Show. The prize money was increased m the home industries section and this has induced the housewife to pay much more attention than in the past to this section—-the entries this year doubling last year's; in fact all classes show an increase. There is a fine exhibit of vegetables, testifying to the fertility of surrounding soil and the careful growing bv the exhibitors. Round the walls are well filled stalls of drapery and fancy goods, lolies and produce, while overlooking all, on the stage, is a huge Christmas tree that, no doubt, will attract the attention of the children. The judges and stewards had a trying morning, but matters were carried out in a businesslike manner, with Mr A. H. Knigge as secretary., To-night Marton Junction Band and Orchestra under Mr A. F. Sharps will render items which will considerably enliven proceedings. Mrs Hntohin's pupils give a performance and a programme, while to-naorrow night Misses Gibbons and Nutt and Mr W. Ingle will present "The Suffragette Disloval!" These performers are already too well known to rec-airo further comment here. There v/ill be a grand auction sale to-morrow uight'of all exhibits at 9 o'clock.
