THE POLICE FORCE.
LABOUR MEDDLERS AND FIRM. MINISTER. Per Press Association. Wellington, May 7. Mr Herdinan, interviewed on the subject of the reported discontent in the Police Fcrce, declared "If the state of affairs at Auckland as reported in a local paper is true, then the position is serious and will necessitate firm handling immediately. I cannot understand the present alleged unrest and I do not believe it is widespread. From what appeared in the -cress I gather that Mr Rosser, well known in Auckland Labour circles, has been getting into touch with the junior men with the view of forming antassociation. I may say at once that this sort of thing will not be tolerated. In the event of labour trouble nappening the police must be under the direct control of the Commissioner and Government, so I shall not permit any labour leader to interfere with the discipline of the force. Every facility will and has been given to members of the force to state their grievances, but rebellion will not be put up with."
