A revolting state of affairs Jias been revealed in Q.ucensborough Cemetery. A gravedigger, who was dismissed, made a statement to the Health Department and the press, wherein lie alleges that it has been the practice for years past to remove the coffins from graves in order to permit fresh burials. There was no room to replace the disinterred shells their gruesome contents the result being that they were piled on one another on a rubbish heap, and in some instances burnt. On one occasion in trying to find room for another coffiu'a pick pierced the lid of a shell and was embedded in a skull which it brought from the casket.
„Dr. Sprot, reporting to the Board of Health, says he verified many of the gravedigger’s statements, more particularly regarding the inability to replace coffins after fresh burial. He had no hesitation in saying that the method of disposing of the dead filled him with horror and amazement, and was a real danger to the public health.
