ATHLETICS.
CLUB FORMED AT MARTON JUNCTION. A large number of athletic enthusiasts met at the Railway Hotel sample rooms last evening to consider the formation of an Athletic Club at the Junction. Mr O. E. Gibbous was voted to the chair. A number of apologies aud offers of assistance j,from prominent Martouians wore received. It was unanimously resolved that a Club be formed and that (it be called “Martou Junction Athletic Club.” The subscription was fixed at 5s for first year, aud 3s Oci for second year (member’s ticket to include lady’s complimentary). The number of subscriptions paid before the couclusioii'Oi' the meeting is a guarantee that the first meeting must bo a success.
Officers elected were: —Patrqn, Mr E. Newman, M. P. ; president. Mr H. C. Grouu; vice-presidents, Messrs W. Spiudler, E. Murphy, Jos. Harris, C. E. Gibbous, W. LesFc, T. Barton, J. Petrie, W. Pentecost, N. Higgiuson, D. Anderson, F. Purnell, S. Dustin, W. H. Gomez; secretary, Mr C. H. Brower; treasurer, Mr S. Ransom; committee, Messrs R. Sinclair, A. Small, J. Fisher, E. Fogdeu, A. L. Karris, H. Baker, A. Whale aud Leo. Groan.
It was decided to hold the firstmeeting ou 20th or 27th February, and in the meantime Marfcon Jockey Club is to be approached for use of its grounds. The matter of arranging affiliation was left in the hands of the secretary.
The meeting terminated with votes of thanks to Mr H. J. Cameron for donation of a trophy, and to the chair.
