AMUSEMENTS.

DICKSON BENEFIT CONCERT,

Marton residents liberally responded to the call for assistance in a deserving case, and filled the Town Hall last evening. Canvassers bad been energetically working during the past week, and doubtless there were many tickets disposed of in addition to those utilised at the entertainment. Mr Beckett, Mayor of Marton, thanked all who had assisted in organising the Benefit entertainment, and stated that they would be pleased to learn that enough funds were in hand to send Mr Dickson to Rotorua,, and keep his wife and family while he was away. The entertainment off most successfully, every item being well received. It is hardly fair to draw comparisons in any item, but it is only fair to the visitors — Miss Baddeley and Miss Clark—-to mention that their items were well appreciated. Miss Baddeley possesses a sweet, highly cultured voice and richly deserved her encore, while Miss Clark also ably displayed the refinement of voice culture. Of the local performers it may be stated that the rendering of each item- was warmly Applauded. Mr A. E. Satherley Crozier’s orchestra took a prominent part, while Marton Brass Band played outside earlier in the evening. Marton Amateurs once again, faced the footlights, and any slight discrepancies which may have been noticed on the occasion of their previous preformance were entirely absent. The performers acquitted themselves with credit, and their success only serves to make Marton public more anxious for their reappearance, which we trust Will be at the earliest convenient date.
