RIVER POLLUTION.

The river pollution crisis as affecting the dairy and flaxmilUng facSoria's was brooght to a head this morning by a large deputation to the ■ Prime Minister. Mr Baick, M P., introduced the deputation. Mr Broad, acting President of the New Zealand Flex-millers’ Assoaiation, drew the Premier’s attention to the recent decision of Sir R. Stout and its effect. The millers ashed for legislation and thonght somewhat similar regulations oonld be applied to the flaxmilling as applied to mining, 02 else legislation should be passed to enable them to continne milling with the use of the.rivers under strict Government supervision. There wore 23,000, acres of flax In the district which would bs almost useless if flaxnailling were to cease Of the New Zealand total /output of flax Manawatu district provided 85 per cent. The question was a national one, and not in any sense local. Mr F. J. Nathan stated the case for the dairy factories and read letters from Cheltenham. Ballanoe, Kairanga and other factories. The Premier, in reply, said he wonld consult the Attorney-General to see If it is possible to do justice both to the owners of river bank property and ,tbe millers. , The deputation could rely on Government doing its duty.
