The British cruiser Perseus landed a force at Plshkah, Baluchistan. They marched inland and drove off a body’of"Afghans guarding SSO rifles and 100,000 cartridges. These were destroyed. Sydney, January 3. A couple, named Power, living at Gunnedah quarrelled. The wife went to friends at Tamworth- The husband followed, but foiling to induce her to return, out her throat and then ins> own. Mrs Power is dead and her husband is in a critical condition.

Reuter’s Tokio correspondent announces the early opening of Port Arthur as a free commercial pore. Received January 4, 8.30 a.m. London, January 3.

A California special was derailed on the Rock Island line. The carriages took fire and five parsons were killed and nine injured, several fatally. A fire broke cat in tho Customs House at Alexandria. The German cruiser Frey as landed saslois who succeeded in saving hundreds of bales of tobacco. The loss is estimated at £300,000. Received January 4, 10.30 a.m.
The pictures left by Dr. Mond to the National Gallery include “The Crucifixion,” , the famous work of Raphael’s boyhood, bought at the Dudley sale for 10,060 guineas.
