At the wool sales, 9289 bales, a capital selection, were offered. There was a crowded attendance from all centres, including many Americans. Merinos showed an all-round advance of 5 per cent, on closing rates of February sales. Best merinos were unchanged. Top-making sorts advanced 5 per cent. Everybody was bidding. Received March li, 1C.50 a.m. " There was exceptionally keen competition at full opening rates for all qualities of wool. Per Press Association Wellington, March 11. A cablegram from the High Commissioner, dated March 10th, says the second wool sales commenced with a large number of Home, Continental and America buyers. Competition for all descriptions is spirited. Compared with closing rates at last sale fine crossbreds of all grades are quoted at %d higher; merino and coarse crossbreds of all grades higher. P The New Zealand Loan & Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., have received the followng cable from their London office:—Wool market: There was a good attendance at the opening of the series to-day, and spirited competition by representative buyers from Home, tbe Continent and America. Prices, as compared with the close of the preceding series, ruled about 5 per cent, higher.
