HORSESHOE DRAINAGE BOARD.

A meeting of trustees was held yesterday afternoon. Present: Messrs H. Hunt (chairman), J. Dalton, R. Mudford, W. J. Thompson, and G. Low, juu. It was resolved —

To accept no tenders, hut to call for fresh ones for the next meeting to be held on Wednesday week. That if Mrs Penny will pay half cost of clearing drain through her property the Board will undertake the work. That the Overseer have the sandstone taken out of the bottom of the Campbell drain, on Mr Costall’s property, payment for labour to be made at the rate of Is an hour.

Messrs Anderson, Harper and Cook waited upon the Board to request that provision he made by deepening the drains through their properties to carry away the extra water led on to thier lauds from the road and tramway. Messrs Harper and Anderson consented to pay half the cost.

Mr Goodwin also attended the meeting and asked the Board to widen and deepen 30 chains of the drain through his property. He was willing to pay half cost. The Chairman said there was no money available for the work and if they undertook the work required it would be necessary to increase the rate. In regard to the drain through Mr Anderson’s it was really an application for a new work. Mr Dalton said he would confer with Mr R. B. McKenzie, who was Councillor for the part of the County Anderson’s water was coming from. It was decided to defer consideration of the applications until next meeting and in the meantime the overseer to inspect and report on the cost of the works required. The overseer was also directed to inspect the drain Mr J. W. Hammond asked the Board to take over and clean out.
