Further details of the mutinous outbreak at Agde state that the mutineers numbered 600. They first plundered the magazine, and afterwards askod to be allowed to return free from disciplinary measures. M. Clemenceau refused to negotiate with rebellious soldiers; and they thereupon declined to surrender. These men had at the outset of the wilie trouble beon withdrawn from Bezior'es because of their sympathy with the winegrowers. Upon learning of t7v.> o-.ithreafe General Lancroissade, officer commanding t at Bozieres, tried to turn the mutineers back peaceably, but declined to take the responsibility of ordering his own men to attack them.
Speaking in the Chamber of Deputies, M. Clemenceiu heartily endorsed General Lancroissade's decision, and announced that General Bailloud went unaccompanied and induced the mutineers to return to their barracks.
Groat uproar prevailed among the Deputies, and for some hours the Chamber was a regular pandemonium. A vote : of confidence "in the Government was finally carried by 327 to 223. Tlio arrest of Albert, one of the leaders of the revolt in the" wine districts, is unconfirmed. The Winegrowers' Defence Committee has issued placards asking peoplo to cease domonstatious owing to the disturbances. ~ Tho Republican Committee of Coinmerco, Industry and Agriculture lias postponed the banquet on Monday to Sir W. Laurier and all public engagements of the French Ministers either in Paris or tho provinces have been cancelled. Juno 23. It is officially announced that the disaffected areas are calmer. The Chamber of Deputies hurriedly passed a Bill preventing the aduleration of wines which was at tho root of the trouble The Agde mutineers havo resumed work and appear heartily sorry for their escapade.
