FARM COMPETITION.

A conference was held on Saturday atthe A. and P. rooms to consider the details of the N.Z, Times farm competitions. MrW. F. Jacobs presided. The chairman explained that £4OO had been offered for the competitions, and out of that sum £6O had been allotted to the districts laying between Turakina and Wellington. The Conference had been called for the purpose of framing conditions. Mr G. Gumming explained that the competition was based upon one held in Sydney by the Morning Herald, subject to amendments. It was not intended to award prizes to fancy farms, but to those worked by the fanners. After considerable discussion it was decided that the districts should be;—On the West Coast from Turakina river to Wellington, and on the East from Maurieeville to Norsowood, extending east as far as the coast. That’there be three prizes, and that the money be apportioned as follows : £3O, £2O and £lO, and the championship prize for the five districts to be £100: The scheme of points passed was as follows; Dwelling, farm buildings, garden, etc., and their situation as regards working, 50; shelter fences and gates, 50; plant, machinery, farm implements, utensils and conditions of same, 50 ; pastures, crops, provisions for winter feed, and cultivation of farm generally, 300; condition of live stock, suitability to district, and class of farm, 200; general management, including drainage and water suppy, 250; special features, including method of keeping of records, 100; total, 1000.
