FEUDING BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The Council met last night,. Be Jv I’rcwin (Mayor), in the chair. CORRESPONDENCE'. From Department of Public Health,, notifying that in view of tho fact that several local authorities which agreed tocontribute towards salary of.sanitary inspector had declined to continue present arrangement, whereby the Department’s payment of inspector’s salary would cease on ilay 31st.—Resolved to apply to Department for £IOO subsidy towards salary. From Secretary Library Committee, nominating as committee for ensuing year, Dr Sorley, Messrs C. H. Burnett, C. N. Cotterill, E. McLean, Bf. Mclntyre, Hid jj. F. Haggitt.—Approved. —Crs Richmond, Cobhe and West were appointed representatives of Council.

From G. J. W.ebstcr, C.E., offering to make necessary surveys, and design and supervise construction of settling ponds for 7i per cent on cost, and also offering to plan a scheme of surface drainage. A reply was received from Robert Hay, O, E.,! tafng his pr’ce was 10 per cent < n cost and travelling expenses for plannir g and mpervising constriction of sedlirg ; ponds.—The question of settling tank wa i referred to special meeting of Council on Thursday. From Mr Graham, solicitor for Mr Thompson, asking that boundary fence covered by contractors in work of filling old gravel pit, Kimbolf on read, bo made good.—Referred to Public Works Committee.

From A.- W. Newman, stating that Fire Brigade uniforms handed to Council by.; him and others were on condition they should not bo given to Fire Brigade until property now hold by that body was vested in Council. —No action taken. REPORTS.

The abattoirs inspector reported that 141 cattle, 379 sheep, 63 lambs, 48 pigs, and three calves, had been slaughtered

during the month of April, the fees received being £BO IGs. Mr Watson Munrcf, electrical engineer, on a proposed scheme for lighting Feilding by electricity, advised erecting a power station in brick and Installing two steam generating plants each of CO kilowatt capacity. The total estimated Cost of the plant would be £IO,BOO, the cost of generation 3d per unit, and the charge to consumers should be 9d per unit.

It was decided to hand over Southstreet reserve to the Beautifying Society. Other requests of the Society were referred to Public Works Committee.

The Mayor and Crs Cobbe and Goodbehere wore appointed a Finance Committee, and it was resolved that the Works Committee be the whole Council.
