FOOTBALL.
Rangitikei Rugby Union
The annual meeting of above was held at" Marton last evening. Following delegates were present:— Messrs A. Way, J. Pawsou, and D. Henderson, Marton; O. Stratford and G. E. Jago, Huitterville; and Henry W. Saunders and J. Barr, Rata. A delegate from Mangaweka attended with a view to ascertaining whether the affiliation of Mangaweka third team with the SubUnion could be conveniently arranged. Mr S. J. Gibbons, president, presided. , K,The annual report and balance - sfieet were read and adopted. The report referred to a successful season of football in Rangitikei last year, and particularly close contests for the tliroe championships. The representative game against Wanganui at Marton resulted in the defeat of the parent body and the return match at Wauganui was voted as a close and interesting game, the result being reversed by a narrow margin of points. Congratulatory referonce was made to several Rangitikei plavers being selected in the Vfanganui representative team for several matches. The appointment of an independent controlling body was recommended. In conclusion the committee congratulated the winning teams—Hunterville, Bulls aud Marton. The election of officers resulted : —Patron, Mr J. Stevens, M.H.R. : President, Mr S. J. Gibbons; VicePresidents, Messrs A. \V. Harrison aud J. Bull, Hunterville ; O. H. E. Rhodes and J. B. Pybus, Rata: J. 4. Pawson and R. Young, Marton; P: Rhodes and G. Nicholson, Bulls; and O. H. Humphrey and F. Bonnar,' Mangaweka. ' _ ■Before the election of a Management Committee' a resolution was passed to the effect that no playing member shall be appointed a member of the committee. " The Management Committee were then elected as follows: Messrs F. Rhodes and G. Nicholson, Bulls; H. W. Saunders, Rata ; J. Bull, Hunterville; Sandford Cos, J. A. Pawson and Father Molloy, Marton, and the president ex officio. It was resolved that it be a recommendation gto the Management Committee to meet at an early date for the purpose of framing a sot ot by-laws for cup contests under the control of the Sub-Union. ■ The meeting expressed itselt strongly in favour of having suitable •by-laws for govoming the Union. It was impossible to adopt the rules observed for cup contests in wanganui as they were in conflict with district clubs. The parent body had ■ now recommended the sub-union to '■ frame its own by-laws for cup contests. Jlt was decided that the Management Committee meet on Monday evening. ' " „ Hlossrs S. J. Gibbons, J. A. Paw§oii and the Secretary were appointed a deputation to wait on Wauganui Rugby Union with a view to getting representation on that body and also to ask for a percentage of gate receipts in the Wangauui-Rangitikei match at Wauganui. !! It was resolved that it be arecommendation to the management to provide for an age limit—say u years—for third class players. It was decided to giv.nt the plication of Mangaweka Thirds tor affiliation.—The delegate consented to make Hunterville their ■ home ground for all matches against clubs South of Hunterville. , Following reforees were accepted -Messrs H Parkes and J. Lowe, Hunterville ,J. Fraser, Rata; Rev Satihar Molloy, O. E. Gibbons and F. Pusnell, Marton. . It was decided that the Union insurance Scheme be carried on the same as last year and to urge all clubs to give the scheme its heartiest
support. The following teams were nominated—Hunterville first and third; '■■- Marton, first, second and third; Bulls first and second; Rata second ■•' and third. ■ ~ , Mr 0. Hinkley, Bulls, was added to the list of referees. Mr H. H.. Hunt was re-elected secretary.
