NORTH ISLAND BRASS BAND ASSOCIATION.

A meeting of the N. I. Brass Bands Association Executive was held at Palmerston last evening, Mr M. Cohen presided. Also present, Lieut. Herd, Messrs Anderson, McLeod, Charkor, Jones and Holben. Decided on the motion of Lieut. Herd, that the next contest bo held in New Plymouth. Resolved, that one selection be procured from Boosey and Co., one from E. Smith and Co., and a march from Trussell. Mr Anderson suggested that all solos for the next contest be test solos. Mr Herd spoke against this, as it was not practical owing to the inability of getting suitable music. The motion was lost. Eesolved, that Mr Hunn Oakes and the local centre be communicated with re supervisor for New Plymouth contest.

That for the purpose of creating a standard inauguration of B grade contests, that all winners of Ist, 2nd and 3rd prizes for past 3 years shall not compete in tho B grade competitions at the 1908 contest or subsequent to the 1908 contest. That a copy of report ro forming the N.Z.B.A»_bo sent to every Executive member so that they will be able to fully discuss the matter at next Executive meeting.

That the Secretary be instructed to communicate with the local contest committee asking them to advise the Association not less than two months prior to date of contest, whether it is intended to hold such contest inside or in the open air, weather permitting. It was decided that Sergt.-Major Anderson be asked to draft a rule in the marching contest which will minimise the making of mistakes in the paces. It was pointed out by Mr Jones that one Australian band made a mistake of |7 paces at the Christchurch Contest. & Resolved to have an extra timekeeper to act in conjunction with the official timekeeper. Lemt. Herd suggested that two judges should be appointed as it was almost§irnpossible.in many cases to keep men waitin«- about when contests lasted for three days. It was difficult sometimes for men to get leave from their employment. The suggestion was put in the form of a notice of motion.
