MANUKAU COUNTY COUNCIL

By-Election Result

Mr Reid Returned Polling for the vacancy on the Manukau County Council created by the death of Mr A. Muir, the member for the Papakura Riding, took place on Friday, Messrs T. J. Corin and E. 8. Pegler (Manurewa), D. A. Reid (Alfriston) and P. Roy (Weymouth) being the candidates. On Saturday, in the absence of receipt of any notification from Alfriston of of the figures recorded at the polling booth there a preliminary declaration was made of the voting at the Auckland and Manurewa polling booths, Mr Pegler then having a commanding lead. The Alfriston vote, however, turned the scales and resulted in the election of Mr Reid, who had a majority of 21 over Mr Pegler. The votes cast were as follows:
