DRURY

At the last meeting of the Women's Patriotic League the afternoon tea was provided by Mrs W, H. C. Glasson,. arid the undermentioned goods were handed in to be forwarded on to Auckland for the wounded soldiers: f>6 pairs sox and 4 helmet caps, the workens being: Sox, Mesdames Strong 8 pairs, John Blake, McMurtrie 6 pairs each, Morrison 5 pairs, Barclay 4 pairs, Glasson, snr., 3 pairs, D. and W. Bremner 2 pairs, Hill, McNaughton, and Glasson 1 pair each, Misses E Morrison 4 pairs, M. Morrison 3 pairs, Morrison 3 pairs, H. Morrison 2 pairs, N. Hill 2 pairs, McPherson, McNaughton and Wardell 1 pair each; helmet caps, Mrs John Dickson 4. A send-off social was last week tendered to Privates Boustead, Comrie and Smallfield, who were up on final leave. The function was presided over by Mr Joseph Flanagan and consisted of the usual form of social that has been so successful in the past. The speech makers of the evening were Messrs Flanagan and Glasson who were listened to with attention and appeciation. Private Boustead on behalf of the soldiers expressed thanks for the fine spirit manifested by the gathering. The supper was provided by the committee, the caterers Messrs J. and J. Rugg as usual doing things in good style. Music was supplied by Messrs* Morgan and Cossey and F. Churches was an efficient M.C. The members of the Anglican Church have recently undertaken vast improvements to the Cemetry, the consecrated portion of which has been eradicated of all noxious weeds. A fine take of grass promises to make this once bare place a spot of beauty and credit should be given to the Rev. Hewlett who has been very enthusiastic in the work done.

The Anglican Sunday School Picnic held on the Rev Hewlett's grounds was a great success and the children were well looked after and catered for by the organisers.

On Sunday last Harvest Thanksgiving Services were held in the Presbyterian Church the Rev. Hales preaching at 10 a. m. and 2.30 p. m. to good attendances.
