TUAKAU.
TUAKAU SOUTH TENNIb CLUB. Ideal weather conditions prevailed at the opening of the above Club on Saturday. The domain grounds, whereiii the club's court is situated, were looking at their best. Trees lent their kindly shade to the tables loaded with g-:od things, while the flower beds and general surroundings were subjects of favourable cumment by visitors present. A large gathering assembled, including visiting players from Buckland and Tuakau clubs. Mr W. Graham formally welcomed visitors on behalf of the club. The next ceremony was a very pleasing one to witness, it being specially arranged by the committee for two of the oldest residents in the district, Mrs Jones ard Mr Collins, to communes play for the season. DEPUTATION. Recently a deputation, headed by Mr Dynes Fulton, waited upon the Prime Minister in regard to the handing over of the old railway line between Tuakau and Buckland t" the Pukekohe East Road Board free of charge. It is understood that a favourable reply was received in response to Mr Fulton's representations. It is hoped that the old line will be formed into a road and opened for public traffic at no distant date. Property holders coucerned have agreed to hand over any necessary land, and the way should now be suffici ntly clear for the Board to act. TENDERS TOO HIGH. Much disappointment has been ftlt locally over the fact that the work of reforming the new Whangarata road and Liverpool street is to be delayed owing to tenders received being too high. The work will take some » time to complete and it is generally " recognised that every effort should be mada to put the work in hand during the summer months.
