The offer for the establishment of a gasworks in Pukekohe was road, showing the concessions asked for, the price to be charged for gas, and the conditions under which the works could be resumed by the borough. Tho Mayor : Tho question is, if private enterprise is willing to do this work and take this risk is it not good enough for the people to build the works themselves ? To take back the works afterwards will be to pay for the goodwill. Cr. Bilkey: Look at the mistake they made with the Auckland trams in handing them over to private people. Town Board Accounts.

The Mayor explained that the Town Board accounts wore not yet completed but he gave some preliminary information about tho balances to be expected. Amongst these the Mayor mentioned that whereas £7OO was given as the expenses on sundries, tho amount proved to be over £ISOO. The expenditure on King Street was given as eijiial to the allocation, whereas it was £.500 overspent. That was, instead of costing £ISOO it cost about £2OOO. Cr. Comrie : And we have'nt got a decent street now! Cr. Hamilton: You'll have to speud another £IOOO on it. L. C. Suggate, clerk of works, tendered his resignation.—The matter was left in the hands of the Mayor to arrange.
