TOWN BOARD ACCOUNTS.
" We nothing extenuate, nor get down aught in malice."
We ake extremely soiry to again have to report that the Borough Council is not yet in possession of the statement of accounts which the hto Town rierk was asked to furnish many weeks ago. In order to bring the matter to some finality the Mayo, lias offere 1 b's services for "a solid week " working at the accounts. This offer is a much nioro onerous aud solfsacrificing one than many people may suppose, and for it the Mayor deserves tho heartiest thanks of every ratepayer. Unti 1 tho Council nceive.j the books of the old Town Board, in proper ordor and duly audited, it litis no book-keeping foundation; so that the presont Town Clerk must moiely be piling up a mass of clerical work which in its turn will have to lie straightened out. Tho Couuc.l's responsibility in beginning its system of book-keeping is a seriors one, and wo cau fo'ly appreciate the arx'ety of the Mayor ami Counei'lors that their books at Ihe beginning should bo able to bear the scrutiny of the (ioverninent audit otlice.
