WATER CONSERVATION

NECESSARY FIRE PRECAUTION Public Must Assist 'Co-operation of the public in the conservation of water, particularly during the present dry spell which increases fire risks, was a subject of discussion at the January meeting of the Putaruru Borough Council on Wednesday. The clerk advised that an advertisement notifying the restriction of the hours during which hoses may be used had been inserted in the Press. Warnings were issued that hoses used must be held in the hand or imposition of ' restrictions* prohibiting use of hoses altogether would be necessary. Unnecessary use of water was prejudicing the supply for domestic and fire-fighting purposes. . People who used sprinkler hoses and failed to turn them off during the night were considered to be the worst offenders. The council was confident that the public would assist where ever possible. When the pump was permanently installed it was expected that the new supply would be stepped up to 6000 gallons. Year's Figures .
