“GREEN ARROWS” AGAIN

PUTARURU MARCHING GIRLS Once again the Putaruru marching girls’ team, "Green Arrows,” won a general appearance competition, this time at Te Awamutu on Saturday. The local team deadheated with a team from Stratford, and Margaret McAlister (leader) lost the toss for the trophy. Even if Putairuru had won the toss sportsmen would have queried such a method of decision for the sponsors should be prepared for such eventualities. Either that or a second inspection should be made, but the decision should be that of the judge, not left to the flip of a coin. As it was “Green Arrows” came home empty handed while the Stratford girls carried off the cup and a presentation cup, saucer and plate each. The local team was also placed third in the optional march. Afternoon Display Sunday afternoon the public of Putaruru had one of the few opportunities of witnessing the girls in action when they gave a display at Qlenshea Park before a fair gallery of spectators. If sufficient funds are raised the girls will make the trip to Auckland for the North Island championships.
